Can you give me legal advice? Where can I get free legal help? Can you recommend a good attorney?

Can you give me legal advice?

No. Library staff are NOT attorneys and are prohibited from giving legal advice or engaging in any activity which might constitute the unauthorized practice of law (Cal Bus. & Prof. Code § 6125)

Where can I get free legal help?

Depending on your legal issue, you may be able to obtain free legal assistance from a Legal Aid Organization, a Lawyers in the Library session, or the monthly Saturday CLASP Clinic (these organizations are giving help virtually during the coronavirus closures).

Can you recommend a good attorney?

Library staff cannot recommend specific attorneys or law firms. If you are looking to hire an attorney, we can refer you to the Alameda County Bar Association, Lawyer Referral Service– (510) 302-2222 x4 or to the Bay Area Legal Incubator.
