How do I file a small claims case?

There are several resources available online for learning about how to file a small claims case in Alameda County.

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda has an informative Small Claims webpage that includes information on reasons for filing small claims lawsuits, rules and forms, filing locations, and other information.

The Superior Court of California, County of Alameda has a Self-Help Center & Family Law Facilitator’s Office which offers information and limited help on small claims cases via telephone and chat (in-person help has been suspended during the COVID-19 public closure period and might resume around June 15, 2022).

You can access the book “Everybody's Guide to Small Claims Court

in California” in print at call number KFC976 .Z9 W37 or online via our Nolo EBSCO database. Log into the Nolo EBSCO database following the instructions at Library Databases | Law Library (acgov.org) and search for the book title to access the book online.
